Meet the Team: Laura Smith

Tell us a little about you

I live in a rural Lincolnshire hamlet, with my Partner and our full array of furry/ feathered friends (ponies, chickens, rabbit and Wilfred the crazy Jack Russell). On weekends, if I am not on walks with Wilfred or out with the ponies, you will find me renovating our house – I am becoming pretty skilled with a paint brush!!

Where did your career start and how did it evolve to where you are now?

I grew up on a smallholding surrounded by various animals and at the age of 17 with an entrepreneurial spirit, I started buying and selling horse saddles, whilst working weekends in a pet and country retail store. Upon finishing my degree in International Equine and Agricultural Business Management at the Royal Agricultural University. I travelled around the world working within various different agricultural businesses and understanding different cultures.

Returning back to the UK and being the people person that I am, I fell into the world of recruitment, specialising in agricultural recruitment. In 2018, we relocated back to the East Midlands and I moved into a Brand Manager role within the equine industry. From here, I was approached by a global company that specialised in on-farm equipment and animal health delivery systems to cover the Midlands and North of England in Business Development. A couple of years in, I then went on to manage and support the six direct on-farm sales representatives.

This re-ignited my enjoyment for helping individuals get the most out of their career within the business and I knew recruitment was the career I wanted, whilst still remaining within the Animal-related industries….

… So here I am today!

What do you enjoy about recruitment?

Creating the perfect match! I am a people person and find it so satisfying to be involved in candidates’ career journeys. In addition to building great connections with the hiring managers and watching their businesses positively evolve due to the placements made by Noble Futures.

What do you enjoy about working in the animal-related industries?

I am an animal lover through and through, no matter breed, size or shape! So the fact I work with such a variety of clients and candidates who are shaping the future of the animal-related industries is just perfect! As they say, if you love your job you will not work a day in your life!

What do you look for in a candidate?

A genuine honesty and dedication to pursue their career ambitions.

What is the one thing you think every CV should have?

Charisma! Whether it be some key personal interests outside of work or a strong standout sentence about your career goals in the personal statement.

What is your top career advice?

Never be afraid to push yourself out of your comfort zone and reach that next career step you want – if you can dream it, you can do it!
