Why we’re supporting Street Vet this Christmas

Homelessness has reached crisis levels across the UK and Ireland. And for many homeless individuals, a pet is often their closest friend, their only family and a great source of comfort. But when you’re homeless, veterinary care for your pet is the last thing that you can afford.

This is where StreetVet comes in and that’s why we’re delighted to be supporting this fantastic cause this Christmas.

StreetVet was born in 2016, inspired by the incredible bond between a homeless man and his dog. The bond between many homeless people and their dogs is profound, such that their pets’ wellbeing is a life-shaping priority.

StreetVet vets and nurses, working with outreach organisations, are out in multiple communities weekly, providing free veterinary care and support to homeless people and their pets, thanks to an ever-increasing number of volunteers and support from concerned people and organisations.

Since inception, they have helped care for over 600 street dogs (some cats and rabbits too!); they have vaccinated and microchipped; treated for fleas and protected against lungworm; prescribed pain relief and helped fight infections; performed surgeries; and sometimes just sat and listened.

Instead of sending out traditional Christmas cards this year, we have made a donation to Street Vet and will be sending StreetVet e-cards to our valued clients and colleagues.

Can you too help StreetVet?

There are many ways that you could provide support and assistance to this fantastic organisation.

Christmas Campaign

StreetVet have Christmas Donation Stations in nominated veterinary practices in their active cities. If you would like to support a dog/cat (even a rabbit!) and their owner during this difficult time of year, please consider donating a Christmas pet toy or gift voucher. Your support will be valued more than you can imagine.
